Of all the roles the city plays, snow removal is one that is front and centre to residents and is often heavily scrutinized by both residents and city staff. It is a complex and expensive undertaking for the city and is an area the city is always looking to improve.
A recent initiative by the city in this regard was the installation of Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) on its snow removal fleet. This equipment allows the city to gather data regarding vehicle status and location as it goes about its work.
This project will make use of the AVL data to develop models that will allow staff to predict events before they happen to increase the efficiency of the fleet and, in turn, improve snow removal performance for residents.
Stay tuned to this site for more update as the project progresses.
